To serve our patients better we offer an in-house Anti-Coagulation/Coumadin Therapy Clinic for our patients who are taking Coumadin or Warfarin. During your Coumadin Clinic Visit, you will get your test done and your dose managed in that visit.
Warfarin, also known as Coumadin, is an anticoagulant. Coumadin is used to help prevent and treat blood clots in the legs, lungs, and those clots associated with heart-valve replacement or an irregular, rapid heartbeat called atrial fibrillation.
If you have had a heart attack, Coumadin may be used to lower the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, and blood clots moving to other parts of the body.
During your visit, you will receive a finger stick and a single drop of blood will be used to run the test. Our nurse will review how you are taking your Coumadin and discuss any side effects you are having.
The test results will be available in less than sixty seconds. If your level is not within range our nurse will discuss the test results with the doctor and we will make adjustments as necessary before you leave. You will then be scheduled for your next visit to the Coumadin clinic.
